Care Instructions for Home Goods

Wood table top goods may be cleaned by applying some of our De JONG & Co. Wood Butter, rubbing off the excess and buffing with a clean cloth. Water should be avoided as much as possible with wood objects however if you require a sanitization then a brief hand wash with soap and water is acceptable. Dry immediately afterwards with a clean towel or cloth. Do not soak or submerge. Do not put in your dishwasher. Once completely dry, follow up a heavier cleaning with a coat of wood butter to bring back the original shine and polish.

To sanitize your De JONG & Co. Serving Board, wash with soap and warm (not hot) water. Dry immediately. Do not soak. Do not put in your dishwasher. Once dry, frequent applications of De JONG & Co. Wood Butter will help resist staining and make your board easier to clean. Applying De JONG & Co. Wood Butter once a week is normal with regular use and under heavy, commercial use daily application is recommended.

Solid wood is a natural, breathing material. Dust surfaces regularly. Protect surfaces from wet or hot. Maintain an environment with consistent humidity (30-45%) and temperature (60-80°). Avoid direct exposure to sources of heating, cooling and direct sunlight. The ultraviolet rays of the sun may change the appearance of wood over time.

De JONG & Co. Wood Butter is perfect for putting a new shine or polish on all of our hand-rubbed oil & wax finishes. First, dry wipe any dirt or dust that may be on your furniture piece. Apply some wood butter to the surface with your bare hands or a small application cloth and rub until you have an even coating on the surface. Buff or rub off the excess with a clean buffing cloth. Cotton cloth works best for this however a paper towel will suffice for a small job. This is also a great method for intermittent cleaning. Since our wood butter is made from all natural and food safe ingredients this is a safe way to clean your furniture. You can avoid nasty cleaning chemicals by simply applying a new coat of wood butter. For heavy cleaning use a damp cloth and if necessary soapy water. Dry immediately. Once completely dry, follow up your heavier cleaning with a coat of wood butter to bring back the original shine and polish.
